Queenstown was named in the commemoration of Queen Elizabeth II. Queenstown –established in 1960’s, is the first ever satellite town in Singapore. Singapore Improvement Trust first chose the site for development and for the construction of a housing estate. Pasir Pajand is located in the south of Queenstown and is a source of economy for the nearby villagers. The area continued to flourish with time. Alexandra Canal Linear Park and HortPark are two of the most visited parks in Queenstown. These parks have been embellished with astonishing theme zones. Chip Bee Gardens is one of many Queenstown's best spots to wind down. Queenstown is known to have a lot of places to work out and chill. Ristorante Pietrasanta and Chuckwagon BBQ & Grill are two popular dining spots where you can get delicious and mouth-watering food. The Queensway Shopping Centre is one of the best shopping plazas with almost 150 stores and services.
Alexandra Hospital was built in 1938. It is located on the back side of HortPark on Alexandra Road. It was first known as British Military Hospital. The hospital is facilitated with 400 beds. It is in the South-Western part of Singapore. After World War II, the hospital received more recognition. The hospital is surrounded by the most unique and beautiful species of garden plants and flowers. There is a memorial plaque in the garden in the remembrance of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in 1942. Ristorante Takada is an Italian –Japanese restaurant on Alexandra Road in Singapore. Another attraction in this area is Alexandra Arch. It is a bridge –built to give an open fig leaf appearance. It is connected with HortPark through Flora Walk. Between 7 p.m. To 12 a.m., every night, the bridge is lit up with LED lights.

The project of establishing a housing estate in Tiong Bahru was also taken up by the Singapore Improvement Trust to accommodate the growing population. The name, Tiong Bahru means ’the new cemetery.’ Until 1920s, the area was dwelled with cemeteries. But with the efforts of SIT project, the area has been transformed into a modern housing estate. It is now mostly inhabited by the people belonging from the upper class. Tiong Bahru Market was built in 1955 and is one of the most advanced shopping markets located in Tiong Bahru. The area has been revolutionized and have adopted the so called ‘hipster culture.’ Tiong Bahru Park, constructed in 1967, is a recreational place for locals, as well as for tourists. The park has fitness corners for fitness freaks. There is also a foot reflexology footpath which gives the sensation of the reposeful foot massage. The food places in Tiong Bahru offer delicious and savory food. The touristy restaurants include –Big Mama Korean Restaurant, Flock Café, Drips Bakery, Forty Hands and many others.
